Here’s a simplified guide on how to register your historic vehicle through MC Motor Club under the Historic Vehicle Scheme (HVS) in NSW:
Vehicle must be 30+ years old from the date of manufacture.
Must be as close to original condition as possible, with only period-correct accessories or safety modifications (e.g., seatbelts, turn indicators).
Must not be modified.
Must be a member of an approved historic vehicle club (such as MC Motor Club).
Go to the Membership page and submit a form. Choose if you wish to visit the club in person, or get your registration remotely.
In Person: an inspection can be done by our club Scrutineer in the Hornsby area of Sydney, they will help you register your vehicle if the vehicle passes the safety inspection and is in working order.
Remotely: If obtaining historic registration remotely, request a manual pink slip from a licensed mechanic confirming the vehicle is in working order. Ensure the mechanic provides a physical copy rather than an online submission, as this will be required for club records. A manual pink slip resembles the image provided below.
You then get your Historic Vehicle Declaration Form, handed to you (in person), or mailed to you (remotely). This will be signed by MC Motor Club.
You will also be provided with Proof of Financial Membership to the Club. Note, the club charges an annual fee that you can transfer to us once you complete the membership form.
Take the Historic Vehicle Declaration Form and Proof of Club Membership to a Service NSW Centre to register the vehicle under the Historic Vehicle Scheme (HVS).
Receive historic vehicle number plates and a Certificate of Approved Operations (must be kept in the vehicle at all times).
✔ Club Events: Official events organised by an approved historic vehicle club (such as MC MOTOR CLUB).
✔ Community Events: If officially invited, the event must be logged in the club’s records.
✔ Servicing & Testing: Short trips for vehicle maintenance and inspections.
✔ Logbook Scheme: With MC MOTOR CLUB, you can drive for 60 personal-use days per year, recorded in a logbook given to you when you visit Service NSW.
Restrictions:
No commercial use.
No daily commuting, unless using the 60-day logbook scheme.

They even checked the stuff I had on the spot and made sure I had everything I needed. I went to Service NSW and all sorted. Couldn’t have asked for a smoother experience!" – Karen, MC Motor Club Member
